Another Big Scandal?
On June the eighth in 2017 James Comey testified before the senate. This was over why he was fired which many are speculating is about the Michael Flynn investigation. The Michael Flynn investigation is the investigation of the current National Security Advisor Michael Flynn possibly releasing highly sensitive information to the Russian government. James Comey was the ex FBI director before he was fired, he has dealt with many cases in his long career and is respected by members of both political parties. Comey has claimed that Trump has said “I hope you could see your way to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.” Comey thought that President Trump meant this as a direction and he kept investigating. Comey then would be fired and this is where people started to speculate about the reason for Trump firing Comey. Throughout the whole testimony many of the republicans were asking what made him think that Trump ordered him to stop the investigation. Idaho Senator James Risch even asked Comey the question “do you know of any case where a person has been charged for obstruction of justice or, for that matter, any other criminal offense, where they said or thought they hoped for an outcome?” Comey would answer with “I don't know well enough to answer. The reason I keep saying his words is I took it as a direction I mean, this is a president of the United States with me alone saying I hope this. I took it as, this is what he wants me to do. I didn't obey that, but that's the way I took it.” We won’t know the full story of what happened unless there are tapes and they are released. The likelihood of there actually being tapes isn’t low though it’s pretty high once you see that ex employees have stated he often recorded their conversations. Trump has threatened Comey with the possibility of tapes but Comey would reply and say “Lordy, I hope there are tapes.” Comey said it in a way that makes Trump look guilty it’s as if Comey is saying bring it I have nothing to hide. Though both political parties seem to agree that he should give up tapes if he has them it is unknown if Trump has them or not. Even if he does have tapes he can edit them like how Richard Nixon took eighteen and a half minutes off of his tapes, he could have the tapes destroyed by someone else maybe Jeff Sessions and only they would know. He doesn’t even have to turn them over if he lies about it and the members of the White House believe him.
On a lighter note though Arizona Senator John McCain asked about the Clinton email case which hasn’t already been done but it was completely unrelated which the media on both ends would then point out. However he claims that he was tired because he went his home state’s teams baseball game which went through the night and he claims that’s why he asked those strange questions.
